Sixto Rodriquez and Co.

The legendary Sixto Rodriguez performed at San Diego’s North Park Theatre, which has recently become a live music venue. His performance was preceded by the Rusty Maples and his daughter, SK.

Dog Walkers

Sondra is a professional dog walker in San Diego — She frequently visits Fiesta Island with her brood. As a matter of fact, she goes almost every day with various groups of dogs she watches and walks.

La Jolla Athenauem Celebrates Jazz Series

The La Jolla Athenauem is celebrating 25th anniversary of its jazz concert series the first week of June. Athenaeum Jazz Program Coordinator Daniel Atkinson (right) and Erika Torri, who is the Atheneaum’s Joan & Irwin Jacobs Executive Director are the chief architects of the series and are photographed s in the room where the concerts are held, which has a grand piano used at all the concerts.

Meet Juan

Meet Juan Martin Sajche, a teacher at Morse High School in San Diego and volunteer teacher who returns to Guatemala to each summer leading projects which include building a school and teaching. He seems to be a really cool guy and very easy to photograph. He has an easy personality and is well like by his students. Sajche is photographed on the Morse High School Campus where he is a teacher.

The Hauer Family and Passion 4 K.I.D.S.

 

Penny and Charles Hauer and their 18 special need children, of El Cajon, received a welcomed surprise of a new Dodge van. The anonymously donated vehicle, facilitated by Passion 4 K.I.D.S., was driven up after the family accepted donations of clothes and Easter gifts from Passion 4 K.I.D.S.‘s Charles and Linda Van Kessler. Since 1974 the Hauers have adopted and raised 44 special needs children and get a great sense of joy from each and every child. Read the story in The San Diego Union Tribune.

$17,000 Shopping Spree

Jessica Love, a math teacher at Orange Glen High School in Escondido, won shopping spree after entering a contest for teaches who buy supplies for their students with their own money. The contest was sponsored the online company, RetailMeNot.

The prize was a three-minute, $17,00 shopping spree at the Costco in Mission Valley. She and her helper, Richard Ferrel completed the three frenzy during which she was able to fill her cart with anything she wanted, up to $17,000. Her haul included a very large flat screen t.v., a Bose stereo sound system, a new camera, a printer, Bose headphones, an Xbox, A Vita Mixer, USB drives, SD cards, printer ink, folding chairs and a small refrigerator.

“In Our Lifetime…”

Gaidi Finnie, Operations Director of San Diego’s Bayview Baptist Church is the organizational force behind the a photograph exhibit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement. He is featured with one of the images, featuring Dr. M. L. King (center), that will be in the upcoming exhibition and is wearing gloves to protect the image as it was moved in for the photo.

The Bayview Baptist Church in Encanto, a neighborhood of San Diego, will be hosting a photographic exhibition at the M.L.King Center on the church grounds prior to the installation of a permanent area that will be the new home of the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art. Twenty-three images of civil rights leaders will anchor the exhibition, “In Our Lifetime…” that will run from February 1, 2014 through February 28, 2014. The photo exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The address of the M.L. King Center is 6134 Benson Ave., San Diego, CA 92114.

The Arabina Dance Company perform’s at Zorba’s Greek Buffet on Broadway Avenue in Chula, Vista, CA. Zorba’s Greek Restaurant, 100 Broadway Ave. Chula Vista. Zorb’as serves up an authentic Greek buffet. Friday night’s include a Greek dancing show at 7:30pm.

Prop 8 and DOMA Repeal Celebration, San Diego

Today marked a day of celebration throughout the United States as the Supreme Court ruled against Prop 8 in California and invalidated Section 3 of DOMA that defines marriage between a man and a woman. Now same sex couples in California can marry again and the Federal government will recognized same-sex marriages in states that permit it.
